Claudia Fernandez is amazingly talented, very sweet and generous! We first met Claudia in Los Angeles a few years ago, at an art and design opening. We first noticed the stacks of striking and unique bracelets she was wearing on each wrist. Moments later, we were introduced, and began a long conversation about textiles and rugs, in the exposition. Clearly, she knew what she was talking about. We got excited. The conversation shifted to her jewelry. Art, history, design AND fashion! How can you not get SUPER excited?? She explained that all the pieces, she was wearing, were her own designs, out of her studios and stores in Mexico City. She said, “...next time you are in Mexico, give me a call”. Guess what? Of course, we did. She was our first call, as soon as we arrived!

Claudia’s work is deeply rooted in her Mexican heritage. Originally her family immigrated to Mexico from Spain. As the daughter of a Mexican Diplomat in Spain, she would return there earlier in life. Her jewelry designs are Mexican to their core. She supports a large community of local female artisans, housing them in Mexico City, where they develop her vision, using centuries-old indigenous techniques. It is impossible not to recognize that Claudia brings in a global point of view, by her innovative use of materials, from leathers, exotic woods, semi-precious metals and gemstones. Her work is clearly exceptional. And her commitment to preserving the skills of her team of artisans is admirable.
